'Armed and dangerous' stabbing suspect Ellis Kirkland in custody

CTV Toronto: Executive in police custody Tamara Cherry has the latest on an investigation into the stabbing of a Rosedale doorman, allegedly by a Toronto businesswoman.

Police have located a female suspect wanted in connection with the stabbing of a 67-year-old man at a Rosedale apartment building, sources confirm.

On Thursday afternoon, sources told CP24 that a woman police said was "in crisis" in the area of Charles and Church Streets is 60-year-old Ellis Kirkland.

Kirkland was wanted by police in connection with an early-morning stabbing at an apartment building near Rosedale Valley Road and Park Road on Thursday.

Officers were called to the area at approximately 7:30 a.m., where they found a 67-year-old suffering from stab wounds.

Investigators said it appeared that the man had been stabbed several times in the torso with a large kitchen knife. He was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Later on Thursday morning, police announced that they were searching for Kirkland, and that she may be armed and dangerous. They warned that the suspect may have a knife and should not be approached.

According to an online biography, Kirkland is an "internationally recognized Harvard award-winning" resource infrastructure specialist.

She is also the chair and founder of NATO Paxbuild Economic Platform, a project of the NATO Association of Canada that is “designed to encourage peace and security through economic stability.”

Police said that they are still investigating whether the suspect and victim know each other.
