DELTA, B.C. - The Crown has issued a stay of proceedings against the brother of a Surrey, B.C., man accused of killing his wife, a pregnant school teacher.

Sukhvinder Panghali had been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and interfering with a dead body.

His older brother, Mukhtiar Panghali, is charged with second-degree murder and interfering with a dead body in the death last October.

The charred remains of Grade 1 teacher Manjit Panghali, 31, were found beside a road leading to the Delta Port, several days after she had disappeared.

Delta police say Crown counsel has decided following an in-depth review of the evidence to stay charges against the younger brother, and the victim's family has been informed of the development.

In March, Mukhtiar Panghali was charged with murder on what Manjit's family says would have been her due date.
