Everybody loves a good sleep at night, and most of us have found that one bed that feels like no other. Sometimes it’s a guest bed at someone else’s house, and sometimes it’s our forever bed that we’ve had for 25 years. But no mattress can really last forever, and it might feel like you’ll never find a replacement that’s as comfy as the one you’re replacing.
Mattresses have come a long way though, and there’s one out there that will help you get the greatest sleep of your life. No matter what type of mattress you’re replacing, we guarantee you’ll be able to find a new one that feels like home to you.
Being ready to buy a new mattress and knowing how to choose one are not the same things, though. Although they look simple on the outside, there are a lot of features that set them apart from each other. Mattress thickness, material, type (hybrid vs. foam vs. spring), price… there are lots of things to think about!
This comprehensive guide will investigate the best mattresses in Canada right now and outline the criteria you should consider while making your purchase decision. Let’s dive right into our top five products.
Top Pick: Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress
Upgrade Pick: Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress
Latex Pick: Silk & Snow Organic Mattress
Cooling Pick: Polysleep Zephyr 2.0 Mattress
Budget Pick: Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress
With a combination of high-density memory foam and high-quality pocketed coils, the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress does a great job of supporting your body weight where it needs to without sacrificing your comfort. Pretty important, right? The well-thought-out zoned support makes sure that your joints are cushioned, your weight-bearing sections are well-supported, and you are comfortable without sinking into the foam.
Since the coils are all pocketed individually, this hybrid mattress does a better job of stopping motion transfer than most. If your partner is restless at night, they won’t disrupt your sleep anymore! You’ll also be happy if you’re a hot sleeper since the foam is infused with cooling gel. Throw in an antimicrobial cover and you’ve got a nearly flawless mattress!
We only have one low point to mention for this one. As with most non-organic mattresses, you’ll need to let it rest for a few days to let the off-gassing process take place. Don’t get rid of your old mattress too soon!
Reviewers have a great opinion of the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress. It’s great for couples because the pocketed coils do a great job of eliminating motion transfer, and it’s also great for hot sleepers because its memory foam is infused with cooling gel. It’s also got excellent edge support so they don’t slip when they sit on the edge, and it’s got a perfect balance of support and comfort.

Needs to rest for a few days after unboxing for off-gassing
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 5/5
Quality: 4/5
All in all, the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is our favourite all-around choice. No matter what sleeping position you prefer, what temperature you keep in your bedroom, or how much your partner shifts around, this mattress is guaranteed to help you sleep like you’ve never slept before.
If you’re after something flawless and luxurious, you can’t go wrong with the Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress. With different layers of foam, latex, and coils, this mattress does it all. The flex coils provide extra longevity (meaning you won’t need to replace it in six years when it fails to do its job), and the latex and foam work together to support your body weight and cushion your joints. It’s ergonomically layered for the best performance ever.
This mattress also incorporates three layers of AirScape technology, plus a layer of cooling gel. This mattress breathes like no other. Whether you’re a hot sleeper or not, you’ll have no trouble staying cozy at night. Even the cover on this mattress is made with care—it incorporates at least 121 recycled bottles to support environmental efforts. It’s also just cozy.
The only thing we could possibly complain about is the price. The smallest size costs way more than the largest sizes of other mattresses, so you’ll need to fork over a lot of money to enjoy all of the things this one has to offer. Also, as a side note, you can’t buy a twin size. The sizing starts at twin XL.
Reviewers are blown away by the quality of the Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress. Even people who have been sleeping on it for several years are still amazed by how comfy and supportive it is. They stay cool while they’re asleep, they wake up with less pain, and their sleep is almost never interrupted. Not a single person has a bad thing to say about this mattress.

Cons:
Very expensive
No twin size
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 2/5
Quality: 5/5
All in all, the Casper Wave Hybrid Mattress is the absolute best you can get. It’s made with some eco-friendly materials, it offers unbeatable support, it supports and cushions in all the right areas, and it even keeps you cool and fresh all night long. What else could you possibly ask for?
We really like the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress. It’s got a lot going for it. Its main claim to fame, though, is how supportive it is. The pocket coils do an amazing job of supporting the upper latex layers, so it’s an awesome choice for heavier sleepers or folks who want a super long-lasting mattress. There’s extra edge support, too, so it won’t cave in when you sit on it. No one needs to end up on the floor, right?
Since it’s made only with organic materials (latex, cotton, and wool), it’ll be free of that icky chemical smell and is an eco-friendly choice. Plus, the wool will act as a natural fire retardant, so you don’t have to worry about any hazards.
Now for the part we all hate—the stuff we aren’t as happy with. Since this is a hybrid mattress, it doesn’t do the greatest job of isolating motion. It works to an extent, but it isn’t as effective as full-foam mattresses.
We also want to give you a heads-up that this is a firmer mattress, so it won’t be a comfortable choice for everybody. It really depends on your personal preferences.
Reviewers have mostly great things to say about the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress. Most people love the firmness level, but for some, it’s too firm for comfort. The main issue that popped up was being able to feel the coils after a while. People were really happy to find a completely organic mattress, and the support—especially on the edges—is something they’re really grateful for.
Sizes Available: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king
Thickness: 12”
Weight: 55 lbs to 115 lbs
Mattress Type: Hybrid
Material: Spring coils, wool, organic latex, and organic cotton
Sleep Trial: 100 nights
Warranty: 15 years
Pros:
Organic materials create an environmentally friendly and hypoallergenic mattress
Wool acts as a natural fire retardant to avoid synthetic chemical alternatives
Pocket coils offer full-mattress support
Stays firm and responsive for decades—perfect for heavier sleepers
Cons:
Will be too firm for some people
Motion isolation could be better
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 4/5
Quality: 4/5
All in all, the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress is a great choice if you like a firmer mattress and want to support a sustainable, eco-friendly mattress design. It has a couple of flaws, but it’s one of the most supportive mattresses you’ll find. Plus, it’s offered at a pretty reasonable price. We love that for you.
We love the Polysleep Zephyr 2.0 Mattress for all of you who overheat at night. And there’s nothing more frustrating than being so hot you can’t sleep. Or sleeping through night sweats and needing to refresh your bed and PJs every morning. We get it. With two layers of unique cooling technology, this mattress can change your sleep for the better. It’s not only great for staying cool, though.
This mattress has a 6-layer design with all kinds of different foam types and thicknesses. What does that mean for you? Unbeatable motion isolation and pressure relief, that’s what! The unique Nanobionic technology also helps you recover faster after intense physical activity—perfect for people who work in manual labour or work out regularly. All of the foam is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, too, so it’s allergy-friendly! And super hygienic.
Our only complaint with this mattress is the price tag. Even the smallest sizes are quite expensive, and some people just won’t want to spend that much on a mattress. While we would prefer the cost wasn’t so high, we can certainly see where it’s coming from. You do get a lot in return.
Reviewers have nothing but good things to say about the Polysleep Zephyr 2.0 Mattress. The motion isolation is unbeatable, and it only took people a couple of days to break it in. And they’ve been having amazing sleep ever since. Even the hottest sleepers can stay cool at night thanks to dual cooling technologies. They’ve never slept better, actually.
Sizes Available: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king
Thickness: 12”
Weight: 54.5 lbs to 104 lbs
Mattress Type: Foam
Material: 6 types of foam
Sleep Trial: 100 nights
Warranty: 10 years
Pros:
Has two different layers with cooling properties for exceptional performance
6-layer design provides exceptional motion isolation and pressure relief
Nanobionic technology helps with recovery after intense physical activity
All foam types are hypoallergenic and antimicrobial
Cons:
Fairly pricey even for smaller sizes
Performance: 5/5
Usability: 5/5
Price: 3/5
Quality: 5/5
Overall, the Polysleep Zephyr 2.0 Mattress is our top recommendation for people who tend to overheat at night. It’s the most effective cooling mattress around, and it’s got a top-tier design that provides tons of comfort, pressure relief, and motion isolation too. Basically, it’s got everything.
Although the friendly price tag was the first thing that caught our attention about the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress, it wasn’t the only thing. With three layers of foam (one for freshness, one for pressure relief, and one for long-lasting support), almost everyone will be able to be comfortable on it no matter their preference for firmness.
All of that foam is surrounded by a knitted cover that is incredibly breathable, and combined with the foam underneath, you should have a comfortable sleep every night. Let’s talk more about that foam. It’s infused with green tea for freshness and activated charcoal for moisture absorption... you can have confidence in the freshness and cleanliness of your mattress for years to come.
There are two main things we’d change about this mattress if we could. First of all, the quality of the mattress edges is not quite up to par—you might be able to feel the individual layers when you sit on the edge. Not a huge deal for sleeping, but might still be annoying. Also, the weight capacity is fairly low, so if you’re sharing the bed with another person and/or your pet(s), it might wear out faster than you expect.
Reviewers are quite happy with the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress. They love the freshness of the green tea-infused foam, and most people are happy with the balance between firm support and soft comfort. Some people have mentioned they can feel the ridges of the foam layers at the sides, but they weren’t bothered enough by it to find a replacement.
Sizes Available: Twin, full, queen, king, and California king
Thickness: 12”
Weight: 39.7 lbs to 78.8 lbs
Mattress Type: Foam
Material: 3 types of foam
Sleep Trial: None
Warranty: 10 years
Pros:
Three unique layers of foam offer tons of support and comfort
Breathable knitted cover creates a cooler, fresher sleeping surface
Top foam layer is infused with green tea and Activ charcoal for freshness and moisture absorption
Exceptionally affordable
Cons:
Weight capacity is limited to 250 lbs for twin bed, 500 lbs for all other sizes
Foam layer ridges can sometimes be felt at the edges of the mattress
Performance: 4.5/5
Usability: 4.5/5
Price: 5/5
Quality: 4/5
Overall, the Zinus Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress is the perfect choice if you don’t want anything fancy and you love a budget-friendly price tag. It doesn’t have any intricate layering or special features, but it’s a solid mattress for people with a lower budget and more relaxed demands.
Some mattresses will cost less than $700, even for the largest sizes, whereas others will cost upwards of $4,500. The larger the mattress is, the more it will cost, but there’s a lot more involved than that. More expensive mattresses will have more advanced materials, unique technologies for breathability, and more sophisticated layering of materials.
Some mattresses are made only of foam, others are mostly springs with a thin layer of foam, and others still are hybrids that have a more equal amount of foam and coils. Spring mattresses will be the firmest and longest-lasting, and foam mattresses will be the softest but also have the shortest lifespan. Predictably, hybrids will fall somewhere in between.
The thickness of a mattress will usually be 12 or 13 inches, but some mattresses are as thin as 6 inches. There are other options in between too. Generally, a thicker mattress will offer more support and more comfort, but they’ll also be more expensive.
Almost all mattresses purchased directly from a manufacturer should come with a sleep trial, usually 100-110 nights. This gives you time to test out the mattress properly before deciding if it’s a good fit. If you purchase through a third party like Amazon, though, you might not get a sleep trial at all.
