I don’t know about you, but I would go to the spa every week if I could afford it and had the time for it. Since that’s not exactly feasible, I decided the next best thing would be to create one in the comfort of my own home.
The first step to that was ordering this sauna blanket. Using one can help calm your mind and body, improve sleep, burn calories, boost energy, and offer fast and deep recovery with infrared light—who wouldn’t want that? I had been seeing them blow up on TikoTok, and I figured why not give it a shot? This model isn’t the cheapest on the market, but it also doesn’t cost as much as some of the luxury offerings out there. It has an average 4.5-star rating, and over 900 reviewers on Amazon Canada singing its praises.
It’s the size of a roomy sleeping bag (71"L x 36"W) and can fold down into a zippered bag when it’s not in use.
It’s made of non-toxic waterproof fabric that won’t let any sweat seep out onto your floor.
It has a wide temperature range ( 77-176 °F).
It has a built-in timer that you can set up to 60 minutes.
It comes with five detox wraps and a head towel for added comfort.
Three sides can be fully zipped and unzipped—the top is zipper-free for comfort around your neck and shoulders.
Thanks to Amazon Prime, my sauna blanket arrived within days. It’s definitely heavier than a sleeping bag, but not so heavy that I have trouble getting it up and down stairs. The carrying bag also comes in handy for that. Getting it set up was a breeze. I simply rolled it out on my floor, plugged it in, and was ready to sweat. It takes a few minutes to get fully heated, but that gave me time to light some candles, put on The Real Housewives, and refill my water bottle.
It can be used on the floor or a soft surface like your bed or couch. I prefer the floor due to its size, but sometimes I’ll bring it up to my couch for a cushier setup. Again, the design prevents leakage, so you won’t have to stress about getting sweat on your freshly-laundered duvet or couch cushions. I felt the heat right when I shimmied into the bag, and found the whole thing pretty comfortable. The opening at the top can let cool air in if you move around, but it stays trapped inside if you don’t toss and turn.
Since I wanted the full experience, I tapped it up to maximum heat and did a 50-minute session. By the end, I was sweating up a storm and felt recovered from my workout earlier that day. Unfortunately, cleaning it up is a not-so-fun experience (I had to towel off all my sweat, wait for it to cool down, and then clean it off with my non-toxic yoga mat cleaner), but if you’re used to doing hot yoga, you probably won’t be phased by this.
It is compact, making it great for smaller apartments and home gym setups.
It’s user-friendly.
It heats up quickly and offers customizable controls.
It’s too bulky to use on slimmer sofas.
The opening can let cool air in if you move around a lot.
Cleaning it up after each session is a bit gross.
I was worried I may have bought into another wellness trend, but honestly, I love this. On its lower settings, it can perform like a heated blanket, and on its highest settings, it’s great for recovery. I've found it especially helpful after tough gym sessions and workout classes. Ultimately, if you’re OK with wiping up sweat after each session, I think you’ll enjoy it, too.
