TORONTO - Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie and David Foster are among the famous friends seen helping Shania Twain overcome personal turmoil on the country superstar's upcoming TV series.

The northern Ontario sensation launches her docu-series, "Why Not? With Shania Twain," on May 13 on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

The broadcaster says the six-part show will focus on Twain's attempts to recover from her well-publicized divorce from producer Robert (Mutt) Lange and rediscover her singing voice.

Along the way, Twain meets vocal doctors and coaches, a grief counsellor, and has intimate one-on-one conversations with music experts including Knight, Richie and Foster.

She's also seen returning to her hometown of Timmins, Ont., with her sister, Carrie Ann, to revisit childhood memories and their parents' sudden death in a car accident when she was 21.

Twain says in a release that she's thrilled to share her story with Canadian audiences.
