Christmas is almost here and thanks to the wonders of the internet, Santa-watchers can track St Nick's journey around the world in real-time.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) has once again launched its Santa tracker with Microsoft, along with a real-time countdown to the big day. The US-Canadian organization has been tracking Santa for over 50 years via a combination of radar, satellites, "Santacam" systems and jet fighter teams.

The organization also provides the aeronautical details of Santa's sleigh and explains how he lives in his own "space-time continuum".

"Mountains of historical data and more than 50 years of NORAD tracking information leads us to believe that Santa Claus is alive and well in the hearts of people throughout the world," says the organization.

In addition to its Santa-tracking website, NORAD has also launched apps for iOS, Android and Windows, meaning that impatient children can track Santa on mobile devices around the clock.

Not to be outdone, Google has also unveiled its Santa tracker for this year, available online and as an Android app. Using a special "sleigh tracking algorithm", the tracker also comprises games, tests and coding lessons for kids.
