‘Speaks to people working together’: Mural unveiled in Regina’s Al Ritchie neighbourhood

WATCH: A mural part of a larger worldwide initiative was unveiled at the Al Ritchie Arena in Regina on Friday.

A large mural made up of smaller tiles was unveiled outside the Al Ritchie Ice Arena on Friday.

The Al Ritchie Community Association had to compete to be part of a program to create the mural, all part of a much larger worldwide mural initiative which aims to reconnect the planet, one tile at a time.

Each mural is made up of many smaller tiles all painted by thousands of artists, both skilled artists and those who have never painted before, including many children.

“It’s got a sense of community about it and it’s cheerful. We have a lot of good things in our community and some less good, and it’s kind of uplifting and cheerful, and it speaks to people working together. All the little panels made something big,” explained Loanne Myrah, board member of the Al Ritchie Community Association.

Organizers hope the bright mural will further help to develop a sense of community for all who live in the area just east of the Regina General Hospital.
