Former Toronto councillor Doug Ford has announced the launch of a book that will detail the “untold story” of his family and in particular, his late brother and former Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

Ford made the announcement outside his mother’s home in Etobicoke on Tuesday morning.

“For years we heard the media stories, for years we heard the opposition’s stories, but now we’re able to tell the true story, the untold story of not only the Ford family but in particular, Rob Ford,” Doug Ford said.

Doug Ford said the book will be “no holds barred,” and will feature stories that “no one has ever heard.”

“There’s no politician safe in this country when this comes out, from the prime minister to the premier, to the mayor,” Ford said. “It’s going to rock the media world, it’s going to rock the political world.”

Ford said, before Rob’s death, the brothers met with a publishing company to write a book.

Ford said the memoir is written in “Rob’s words” as well as Rob’s widow Renata and his mother, Diane Ford.

When his brother started working on the book, he “finally felt like he could tell the truth about issues the media called him out on,” Ford said.

Diane Ford told CTV Toronto that her family needs “people to hear the truth, and what our family has gone through.

“And it hasn’t been pleasant. And we haven’t deserved it,” she said.

Doug Ford said the book isn’t about revenge, but telling the family’s side of the story on some tough topics, including Rob Ford’s battle with addiction.

The book’s full title is “Ford Nation: Two Brothers, One Vision – The True Story of the People’s Mayor.” It is set to be released on Nov. 22.

Ford also confirmed he will be running for public office, but did not offer more details. He said that announcement will be made “within the year.”
