Quebec Premier Pauline Marois has shuffled her cabinet to fill the environment minister’s post after he was forced to step down amid allegations of ethical lapses.

Yves-Francois Blanchet will take over the environment portfolio, days after Daniel Breton resigned over media reports he had failed to pay rent, been convicted of EI-related fraud, and had once had his driver’s license suspended for getting a number of speeding tickets and then failing to pay the fines.

Marois has also restored Veronique Hivon to her previous post as junior minister for health and youth protection.

Hivon had resigned the post in October after she became pregnant and her doctors told her to take it easy. Hivon recently suffered a miscarriage.

Also affected by Tuesday’s shuffle is Marjolain Dufour, who is now party whip, and Sylvain Page, who becomes caucus president.
