HALIFAX - The lieutenant-general heading the Canadian Forces effort to address sexual misconduct and harassment says she's confident change can be made in the military.

Lt.-Gen. Christine Whitecross made the comment today in Halifax following a town hall-style meeting with personnel of all ranks at the city's naval base.

Whitecross is about one-third of the way through a tour of 33 military bases across the country.

She says service personnel are engaged with the issue and want to be part of the solution.

Whitecross says the military is working on a set of performance measurements and an initial progress report will be released to the public in the fall.

A report released April 30 by Supreme Court Justice Marie Deschamps documented a sexualized culture in the Canadian Forces that she said was far worse than the military had previously been willing to acknowledge.
