OPP issue over a dozen charges during commercial vehicle blitz in eastern Ontario

Ontario Provincial Police issued 15 charges to transport truck drivers and companies during a weekend commercial vehicle enforcement blitz on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario.

Police say officers checked commercial vehicles in Leeds County, in the Brockville area, on Friday and Saturday.

Fifteen charges were laid during the blitz for speeding, equipment violations, hours and service and documentation requirements.

Police say a driver of a truck stopped for speeding was “loaded with dangerous goods.”

“It was not equipped with a mandatory speed limiter. The driver had been previously charged for speeding offences,” the OPP said on X.

Another driver stopped for speeding was hauling a 25,000 kg. load and had no mandatory speed limiter, according to police.

“Safety on Highway 401 is a collective responsibility that concerns everyone, whether operating a passenger vehicle or a large commercial vehicle,” Leeds OPP Operations Manager Brian Jones said.

“Embracing a mindset of mutual responsibility and respect can lead to safer highways for all.”
