Ottawa to allow bars, clubs to extend alcohol service hours to mark Ottawa’s 200th birthday in September

Ottawa’s bars, clubs and restaurants will be allowed to extend alcohol serving hours on the day marking the capital’s 200^th birthday and Nuit Blanche in the ByWard Market.

The City of Ottawa has announced restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs can apply to extend their service hours as part of the Ottawa 200 celebrations on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Events scheduled for Sept. 26 include:

• A free, family-friendly Ottawa 200 block party at City Hall
• Nuit Blanche
• Pique at Arts Court

Nuit Blanche will be a “free overnight arts festival that transforms the city into an open-air gallery,” according to the event website.

Nuit Blanche’s website says urban spaces will be transformed by art, light and technology, with events in the ByWard Market and at other locations in downtown Ottawa.

Establishments can begin the application process now for the extended hours on the City of Ottawa’s website.

“Communities across our Nation’s Capital are invited to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Bytown, which took place on September 26, 1826,” the city said in a media release.

“What began as a humble logging settlement along the Ottawa River has grown into the industrious and vibrant city of Ottawa that residents and visitors experience today. In recognition of this historic milestone, the City of Ottawa has designated Saturday, September 26 as a day of municipal significance marking the official 200th anniversary.”
