G2 driver using friend’s dad’s car caught speeding 69 km/h over the speed limit in Ottawa

A G2 driver will have to explain to their friend’s dad why their car is in an impound yard for 14 days after being caught speeding 69 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 174 in Ottawa’s east end.

Officers with the Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit were conducting patrols on Thursday.

Police say an officer spotted a vehicle going 149 km/h on Highway 174 at Trim Road. The speed limit is 80 km/h.

“Someone’s dad will not be pleased,” police said on X, noting the driver has been charged with stunt driving.

“The driver was driving his friend’s dad’s car with the friend and two others as passengers.”

The charge of stunt driving includes a 30-day licence suspension and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

Meantime, a driver is facing a charge of stunt driving after being spotted going 56 km/h over the speed limit in the rain on Thursday.

“Nothing screams ‘pull me over’ like doing 56 km/h over the posted speed limit in the rain,” police said.

The driver was observed going 136 km/h on Highway 174 near Trim Road, where the speed limit is 80 km/h.
