G2 driver going 58 km/h over speed limit on Orléans road charged with stunt driving

A G2 driver caught going 58 km/h over the speed limit in Orléans is one of several drivers facing stunt driving charges in Ottawa.

The Ottawa Police Service’s Traffic Escort and Enforcement Unit says an officer spotted the 18-year-old driver going 118 km/h on St. Joseph Boulevard near Taylor Creek Drive on Monday.

The speed limit is 60 km/h.

Another driver was observed going 138 km/h in an 80 km/h zone along Limebank Road near Leitrim Road, according to police.

The charge of stunt driving includes an automatic 30-day licence suspension, and the vehicle is impounded for 14 days.

Two drivers were also charged with stunt driving on Highway 174 last week.

Police say officers stopped one driver going 158 km/h in the 80 km/h zone near Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard, while another driver was observed going 139 km/h.

“Our officers are taking a zero-tolerance approach to high-risk, high-speed & disruptive drivers in 2025,” police said.

The charges were announced as police kicked off national Road Safety Week, focusing on speeding and aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving and seatbelt use on the roads.
