A G1 driver is facing charges after being stopped for driving with an expired plate on Highway 417 in Ottawa, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police say the driver was stopped after officers received a notification from the cruiser’s Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera, alerting them of an expired licence plate.

When the driver was stopped, police found that they were a G1 driver. The driver was also driving unaccompanied, police say.

In Ontario, G1 drivers have to follow certain rules, including not driving on 400-series highways and must always be accompanied by a qualified driver.

As a result, the driver received charges related to expired plate and G1 licence violations.

Their vehicle was impounded to their home.
