Flooding closes roads and soaks sports fields

Ottawa's Wednesday night rain storm caused flooding throughout the region forcing road closures and waterlogged fields.

The downpour led to a washout on Ridgetop Road in West Carleton.

Ridgetop Road will be closed for a number of days between Thomas Dolan Parkway and Dunhaven Drive.

Thomas Dolan Parkway was also flooded and is closed from Woodkilton to Dunrobin Road.

Officially,  Ottawa received 55.6 mm of rain.

That's not a record but most of the heavy downpour took place in a short period of time between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

One Twitter photo shows the 18th hole at the Nation Golf in Plantagenet, Ontario under water.

The Bytown Battalion baseball club has cancelled its game tonight at Brewer Park because the field is waterlogged.

Ottawa Fire responded to more than 20 false alarms tripped by the heavy rain.

The City of Ottawa's 311 lines were also deluged by callers for service.
