Driver crashes into construction vehicle on Hwy. 417: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to be cautious as construction season ramps up after a driver struck a construction vehicle on Highway 417 Tuesday.

Police said the driver had gone through the construction pilons on a stretch of the highway near Parkdale.

No one was reported hurt.

“A reminder that with construction season upon us in Ottawa, drivers need to take extra precautions when driving on our busy highways! Always be aware of construction zones and their workers,” the OPP said in a post on X.

The driver is now facing a charge of careless driving and a charge of unlawfully driving in a construction zone.

The charges come with a combined $600 in fines and six demerit points upon conviction, the OPP said.

There will be several construction sites along Highway 417 this spring and summer. The westbound off-ramp at Island Park Drive and the westbound Parkdale Avenue on-ramp will be closed until Oct. 2. The eastbound Parkdale Avenue off-ramp on Hwy. 417 will be closed between May 25 and Aug. 24.

The Highway 417 westbound on-ramp from southbound Pinecrest Road and the Highway 417 westbound off-ramp to Richmond Road were closed starting at 5 a.m. Monday and will be closed until mid-August, according to the City of Ottawa.
