Death of man found in Ottawa River in Clarence-Rockland deemed a homicide

The death of a man found in the Ottawa River near Clarence-Rockland last week has been deemed a homicide, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The body was discovered in the Ottawa River near Dallaire Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. last Saturday.

Police say a postmortem examination confirmed the deceased is 63-year-old Robert Prevost, of Clarence Rockland. A police spokesperson told CTV News Ottawa “the postmortem results supported the conclusion that Mr. Prevost was murdered.”

According to police, Prevost was last seen at his home on Laurier Street in early February and he was reported missing in March.

The Russell County OPP Crime Unit continues to investigate the death, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

No other information was released about the investigation or the cause of death.
