Charges laid in 2024 death of 9-year-old in ATV crash north of Kingston, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges against a 35-year-old in connection with a fatal ATV crash north of Kingston last year.

OPP and emergency services responded to the crash on a local trail near Greer Road in North Frontenac Township on Oct. 24, 2024, at around 3:30 p.m.

A person reported finding an overturned ATV in a ditch and an injured person.

Police found a nine-year-old girl from the area who was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, police charged an individual from North Frontenac with causing death by criminal negligence.

OPP said at the time that the nine-year-old was driving the ATV with two young passengers who went to a nearby home to seek help.

They had minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before a Kingston courtroom in June.
