Calgary man charged following drug bust in Belleville, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police say a Calgary man is facing a list of charges following a drug investigation in Belleville in eastern Ontario.

OPP say officers stopped and arrested a driver on Highway 2 on Monday, seizing a handgun with an over-capacity magazine.

A search of the driver’s pickup truck also yielded quantities of suspected fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, hydromorphone, and hydrochloride, as well as more than $5,000 in cash, ammunition, and other “items typically associated with drug trafficking,” according to police.

OPP estimate the “street value” of the drugs at more than $100,000.

Police later searched an apartment on Creswell Drive in Quinte West, seizing more ammunition and other unspecified items.

The 26-year-old accused is facing five counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking and several firearms charges.

OPP say the investigation is continuing into an apparent breach of conditions related to firearm possession.

The accused was scheduled to appear in court in Belleville on Tuesday.
