Border agents intercept heroin in package from Italy at Ottawa airport

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says a 47-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after officers intercepted a package at the Ottawa International Airport that contained drugs.

The CBSA says it conducted a secondary inspection of a package that arrived in Ottawa from Italy on May 8, and found it contained heroin, the agency said in a news release.

Ontario Provincial Police were called in to assist in the investigation and, on Tuesday, officers arrested a man at a home on Red Castle Ridge in Manotick.

The accused is charged with importing a Schedule I substance and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. He is scheduled to appear in court in June.
