18-year-old facing attempted murder charge following assault at Promenades Gatineau

A Gatineau man is facing several serious charges following an alleged assault outside the Promenades Gatineau mall.

Gatineau police said officers were called to the mall parking lot at around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Two people got into a fight when one of them allegedly attacked the other with an unspecified weapon. Several people, including minors, were present.

The accused and the victim knew each other, police say.

The victim, who is under 18, was transported to hospital with serious injuries, police say. He is expected to survive.

The accused, an 18-year-old, was arrested later in the day.

He appeared in court Tuesday to face charges of attempted murder, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, and aggravated assault.
