Police warn AI deepfakes driving rise in emergency scams
March is Fraud Prevention Month, and police are warning that artificial intelligence is making scams harder than ever to detect. Canadians lost over $700 million to fraud last year, yet most cases still go unreported. Scammers use urgency and deepfakes–impersonating family members or trusted figures–to trick victims. Authorities urge everyone to verify unexpected money requests and report fraud, even if no money was lost. Eric Taschner has more.
