Hwy. 17 to get a major facelift from Echo Bay to Hwy. 548

Summer construction brings $53 million in resurfacing of 17 km of the Trans-Canada Highway near Echo Bay.

The province says it’s spending roughly $53-million upgrading Highway 17, a project that will span almost 17 kilometres of highway and bridge repair.

“Repair and replacement of bridge work will include the Bar River Bridges, Stobie Creek Bridge and Richardson Creek Bridge,” the province said in a news release June 8.

“Highway 17 is more than a roadway, it is a vital economic corridor that connects northern communities, moves goods to market and supports jobs across the region,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth.

The province said earlier this year that it’s spending more than $600 million to expand and repair transportation infrastructure across northern Ontario.
