Verbal altercation in Serpent River leads to charges

A verbal altercation at a community centre in Serpent River First Nation has led to criminal charges, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a news release.

On Feb. 4, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance on Ball Park Road. Police said a disagreement between two individuals escalated, with one person allegedly threatening to “use baseball bats the next time they met.”

“Officers later located the accused, and a subsequent query revealed that the individual was also wanted for another matter,” the OPP stated in a release.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was in violation of a court-ordered condition by being in the company of someone they were prohibited from associating with.

As a result, a 41-year-old local man has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, as well as three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused appeared in bail court on Wednesday in Blind River and was remanded into custody.
