Vehicle found in snowbank leads to drug, impaired charges in northern Ont.

Efforts to reduce impaired driving in the northeast seem to be working in some communities – provincial police say stats are still high.

A 29-year-old Timmins man faces multiple drug and impaired driving charges after Ontario Provincial Police discovered a vehicle in a snowbank earlier this month.

On May 7 at about 2:30 a.m., officers located the vehicle stuck at the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 655.

“Police found the driver inside and (he) was transported to (the South Porcupine) detachment for further testing,” said OPP in a news release Friday.

Police seized quantities of suspected crack cocaine, cocaine, and methamphetamine along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities estimated the street value of the drugs seize was $1,100.

As a result, the driver was charged with two counts of drug trafficking, impaired driving and possession of property obtained by crime.

In addition to the charges, the accused also received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the vehicle involved was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and are scheduled to appear in court on June 5.
