In the first incident, Ontario Provincial Police were patrolling on Highway 17 in the community around 12:15 a.m. when spotted a speeding vehicle.

“The cruiser’s radar was activated and registered a speed of 199 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

A traffic stop ensued and a 17-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie was charged with stunt driving and fail to surrender a driver’s licence

At 11 p.m. that night in Goulais River, Sault OPP on Highway 17 again spotted a speeding vehicle.

This time, the cruiser’s radar registered a speed of 161 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.

A 21-year-old from Aweres Township was charged with charged with stunt driving. Both were scheduled to appear in court May 7 in Sault Ste. Marie.

Both vehicles were impounded for two weeks and both suspects had their licences suspended for 30 days.
