Start of school year on hold in Kashechewan

Classes won't be getting under way as scheduled on the Kashechewan First Nation next week.

First Nation leaders say the portable classrooms are in violation of building and health and safety codes.

After an emergency meeting Thursday with the local education authority, the start of the school year is now on hold until renovations and upgrades are complete.

Chief Leo Friday says he wants the children back in school as soon as possible.
