Sault suspect accused of taking $3,900 from victim’s bank account

Police have laid fraud charges in Sault Ste. Marie following a month-long investigation that began May 6.

Information received by officers said the 50-year-old woman had taken money from the victim’s bank account.

“An investigation revealed the accused had fraudulently accessed the victim’s account and transferred approximately $3,900 to their own account without the victim’s knowledge or consent,” a news release said Monday.

“The accused and victim are known to one another.”

The woman was charged with fraud under $5,000 and was released on an undertaking to return to court Aug. 11.
