Sault man faces 8 theft charges after series of business thefts

A 38-year-old local man has been charged with eight counts of theft following an investigation into a series of commercial thefts in Sault Ste. Marie spanning three months.

The accused was taken into custody on June 5.

“Officers with the Division 2 Unit located and arrested the accused – who initially identified themself with a false name,” the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said in a news release.

Police said the thefts occurred at three separate businesses on eight occasions between Jan. 19 and March 18.

Multiple charges laid

In addition to the theft counts, the man is charged with obstructing a peace officer, failing to comply with a release order and failing to attend court while on a release order.

The accused man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
