Ontario Provincial Police in Cochrane seized two nunchucks in three days, with both incidents tied to the same suspect.

The first case happened around 1 p.m. June 10, when officers patrolling on 5th Street saw someone swinging the nunchuck (or nunchaku), which is a prohibited weapon in Canada.

The weapon was seized and the 36-year-old suspect was charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon and having open liquor.

The accused was released with a court date of July 9 in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Then on June 12, just before 2:30 p.m., police received a report about shoplifting from a business on Highway 11 West in the community.

“Police located two persons a short time later in relation to the shoplifting complaint on Second Street in Cochrane,” the OPP said in a news release Thursday.

The same 36-year-old suspect was charged with theft under $5,000. The person with them, age 31, was found with a nunchuck and they were charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on July 23.
