Timmins police have charged a Canadian Mental Health Association worker for breaking the city's noise bylaw.

Police said they received a complaint from a citizen Thursday morning about loud noise coming from the picket line on Second Avenue.

The picketers are members of OPSEU Local 631 who have been locked out by their employer since Feb. 13.

OPSEU said its vice-president received the $150 ticket when officers showed up to say the music members were playing was too loud.

Police said they also issued a verbal warning that if the offence reoccurred or persisted, the matter would need to be addressed in court.

"There are provisions for persons, organizations to host louder parties or events but they have to (get) that permit from the city and this wasn't done in that case," said Marc Depatie, communications coordinator for the Timmins Police Service.

OPSEU officials said the union will pay the fine on behalf of its member.
