Northern Ont. traffic stop leads to 3 arrests, seizure of $18K in suspected drugs

Three people are facing drug tracking charges following a traffic stop on Highway 11 last week.

At about 3 a.m. on Sept. 11, members of the Kirkland Lake and Temiskaming Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachments assisted the North East Community Street Crime Unit to conduct a traffic stop near Englehart, Ont.

“Three occupants of the vehicle were arrested for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking,” said police.

“During the investigation, officers seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of $18,000.”

Police said they also seized three cell phones, packaging materials and scales.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old man from Swastika, a 35-year-old man from Charlton and a 27-year-old woman from Kirkland Lake were charged with drug trafficking.

All three accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
