Northern ATV driver faces impaired, other charges after traffic stop

A 25-year-old Kapuskasing resident is facing multiple charges, including impaired driving, following an ATV traffic stop earlier this month.

Ontario Provincial Police conducted the stop on Riverside Drive at about 8:00 p.m. on April 19, after observing the driver operating an all-terrain vehicle without a helmet.

“During the stop, officers determined that the driver had consumed alcohol,” said OPP.

“The individual was arrested and transported to the Kapuskasing detachment for further testing.”

As a result, a 25-year-old man was charged with failing to wear a proper helmet, failing to surrender his licence, and driving an off-road vehicle without a permit, plate or insurance, along with two impaired driving offences – including operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.

In addition to the charges, the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the ATV involved was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on June 2.
