North Bay motorcyclist injured in collision with SUV

One motorcyclist was seriously hurt Sunday in North Bay when an SUV pulled out of a driveway. Another motorcycle driver was also injured

The driver of an SUV has been charged after a three-vehicle crash that also involved two motorcycles on Sunday afternoon in North Bay.

Police response around 1 p.m. to the collision, which took place near the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Premier Road.

“A 33-year-old female driver of an SUV departed a private driveway and struck an 18-year-old male driver of a motorcycle on Lakeshore Drive, which caused him to lose consciousness,” police said in a news release Monday.

“A second motorcycle, being operated by another 18-year-old male, had been moving in tandem with the first, and although its rider took evasive manoeuvres to avoid the collision, he, too, became involved and sustained minor injuries.”

Both were taken to hospital. One driver was in critical care, but his condition has since improved to stable. The other motorcycle driver was released from hospital.

The SUV driver, who was not injured, has been charged with failing to yield when exiting a driveway, under sect. 139 (1) Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.
