More arrests in connection with 2022 murder in northwestern Ont.

Two more people have been charged in connection with a homicide near Naotkamegwanning First Nation (Whitefish Bay First Nation) that took place almost three years ago.

“Four days later, police discovered human remains in the Northwest Angle #33 First Nation,” police said in a news release Friday.

“The post-mortem examination confirmed that the remains were that of the missing man.”

Two people were charged in connection with Cowley’s death in December 2022.

Second-degree murder

Two more people were charged this week.

A 24-year-old woman from Whitefish Bay was charged May 20 with obstructing justice and committing an indignity to a dead body.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on May 29.

A 38-year-old man from Kenora was arrested May 22 and charged with second-degree murder and committing an indignity to a dead body.

The accused was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on May 23.

“The Treaty Three Police and the OPP North West Region Crime Unit are continuing the investigation,” the release said.
