Markstay-Warren man charged with impaired driving after hitting utility pole

Some not getting the message on impaired driving Since the start of the Festive RIDE campaign in mid-November provincial police in our region have charged 87 people with impaired driving.

A 49-year-old local man is faced with impaired driving charges following a crash in Markstay-Warren last week.

On July 2 at about 11 p.m., members of the Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with fire and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to a single-vehicle crash where the vehicle had collided with a utility pole on Ratter Lake Road, police said in a news release.

“EMS assessed the lone driver for minor injuries, who was then arrested for impaired driving,” said police.

“Then transported to an OPP detachment for further testing.”

As a result of the investigation, the 49-year-old local faces two impaired driving charges along with an additional charge for driving with an open container of alcohol.

The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days by police and the accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.

This incident occurred only the day after a domestic violence complaint in Markstay-Warren led to impaired driving charges.
