Local man dead after being shot by police in Temiskaming Shores

SUDBURY — The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in after a 42-year-old man was shot and later died after a confrontation with OPP officers at a home in New Liskeard on Thursday night.

Police say they were called around 9 p.m. to a residence on Lakeshore Road North in Temiskaming Shores..

Upon arrival, police say officers were confronted by a person with a firearm.

In a news release, the SIU says after an “incident” with the officers, the man was shot multiple times by two officers.

He was transported by EMS to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

The SIU, which has invoked its mandate in the case, is called In whenever police are involved in a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
