Hwy. 17 reopens south of Wawa after crash

A portion of Highway 17 south of Wawa near Old Woman Bay has reopened after being closed for almost 2 hours on Saturday.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said on social media that the roadway was closed due to a collision and police were on the scene.

Police said the roadway reopened just before 6 p.m. Saturday evening.

The Ministry of Transportation’s Ontario 511 service stated the highway was closed in both directions at Salter Lake in the Algoma District.

There were no detours available during the closure.

The OPP has not released any details on the cause of the crash, the number of vehicles involved or if any injuries were sustained.
