Homeowners in northwestern Ont. push trespasser down the stairs

A 44-year-old woman in northwestern Ontario told police that she had been assaulted, but an investigation revealed an entirely different story.

Ontario Provincial Police in Nipigon were called just after 5 a.m. Aug. 24 to respond to an assault on Wadsworth Drive in the community.

"Officers attended and spoke to an injured female who reported being assaulted," police said in a news release Tuesday.

"Upon further investigation, it was determined that the female had entered the home while the two residents were sleeping and began assaulting them."

At that point, the homeowner "used reasonable force to remove the female from the residence where she fell down a set of stairs and was injured," police said.

While the two victims declined to press further charges, the woman was issued a trespass notice.
