Drugs, loaded guns and break-in tools seized during northern Ont. traffic stop

Four charged following northern Ont. search Four ‘dangerous suspects’ from southern Ontario have been charged after fleeing police in West Nipissing last weekend.

Two people are facing more than 27 charges after a Highway 11 traffic stop uncovered more than $10,000 in drugs along with break-in tools, a black mask and multiple weapons, police say.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Friday, officers pulled a vehicle over for speeding in Strong Township -- about 71 kilometres south of North Bay -- and made the concerning discovery, Ontario Provincial Police said in a social media post.

Weapons seized include a loaded rifle, ammunition, a hatchet, five knives and brass knuckles.

"Police seized drugs suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone tablets, fentanyl, and approximately $1,700 in Canadian currency," OPP said in a news release.

The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Whitby, is charged with several traffic violations including speeding, failing to stop on the right for an emergency vehicle, and failing to surrender vehicle permit and insurance along with two counts of driving while under suspension.

She and her 40-year-old male passenger from Windsor are both facing several weapons-related and drug trafficking charges, as well as identity fraud for giving a fake name to avoid arrest.

The man also is charged with two counts of failing to comply with his probation order and three counts of not complying with a release order.

Both suspects were held for a bail hearing and remain in custody.
