Commercial explosives seized at two residences in Marathon, Ont.

Marathon Ontario Provincial Police is investigating two separate incidents involving the discovery of commercial explosives in residential areas of Marathon.

The first was on March 4, when police responded to a report regarding explosives found in a residence on McLeod Drive. The OPP’s explosive disposal unit arrived on the scene and the explosives were safely removed.

Once in March, once in May

Then on May 3, explosives were found near a residence on Hemlo Drive. The explosives were again removed by the explosive disposal unit.

“In both cases, the explosives were identified as products manufactured by Orica Canada Inc.,” police said in a news release Monday.

“At this time, there is no threat to public safety, however both investigations remain ongoing.”
