Break-in attempt leads to drugs, weapon charges: Sault police

A 35-year-old man faces more than a dozen charges after Sault police say officers found him trying to break into a building while carrying brass knuckles and suspected drugs.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said officers with its Division 2 Unit were conducting a property check in the 700 block of Queen Street East shortly after 2:30 p.m. on June 5 when they saw the accused attempting to break into a building. The man was arrested at the scene without incident.

Drugs, weapons found

“Upon searching the accused, officers located a small quantity of suspected fentanyl, brass knuckles and pliers,” police said in a news release.

As a result, the man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, breaking and entering with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of break-in instruments, entering a premises when prohibited, drug possession, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and one additional weapon offence.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
