The NDP has revealed its shadow cabinet members who will be tasked with checking up on their Conservative rivals across the floor of the House of Commons, with NDP Leader Tom Mulcair rewarding former leadership rivals with top posts.

Nathan Cullen, who placed third at the leadership convention, has been named NDP house leader, while Toronto MP Peggy Nash is the finance critic.

Mulcair will handle intergovernmental affairs, while his deputy leader, MP Libby Davies, will take on the health portfolio.

Former interim leader Nycole Turmel will become the party's whip, while Phil Toone will become deputy whip.

Manitoba MP Niki Ashton, another former leadership contender, will take on the portfolio for women's issues, and Paul Dewar will handle foreign affairs.
