Train on new bridge? Wait another year to find out

CTV Montreal: Train-on-bridge debate intensifies Any possible train on the upcoming new span would only be built after it the bridge is completed, Robert Poeti has stated.

The Couillard government has given itself another year to take a decision on the possibility of adding light rail transit on a new Champlain Bridge.

A verdict on the possible project will only be handed down at the end of the summer of 2015, Transportation Minister Robert Poëti announced at a press conference Thursday.

Quebec is asking the federal government to design a bridge that will be amenable to both LRT and buses, to allow them to consider both options.

Poëti and AMT chief Nicolas Girard plan to analyze the cost-benefits of the two options and a decision will be made after a report is issued in about 15 months.

The government notes that even if the government opts for the LRT, it will not be ready in time for the opening of the bridge in 2018.
