Suspicious fires in Montreal and northern suburbs

Several suspicious fires broke out early Tuesday morning in Montreal and north of the city.

The first fire began around midnight on Bruxelles Ave. near Fleury St. . Several people called 9-1-1 to report a car on fire at a garage.

Firefighters were only able to control the flames after a tow truck was destroyed and four other vehicles were damaged.

A nearby apartment building was evacuated, but nobody was injured.

Around 2 a.m. in L'Epiphanie, north of Montreal, a fire started in a bar and then spread to the rest of a commercial building.

Neighbours say they heard the sound of breaking glass and an explosion before the fire began.

It took several hours for firefighters to control the flames, and six hours after the fire began it was still smoking, despite extra crews being brought in from Repentigny and Montcalm.

Damage to the building is extensive and may be too much to repair.

Meanwhile in Notre Dame des Prairies, further north, another fire began at a car wash company on Antonio Barrette Blvd.

Firefighters put that blaze out without too much trouble, and at the scene found indicators that someone had deliberately started the fire.
