Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan accepts prize in Montreal for "Mommy"

CTV Montreal: Dolan banks another award Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan has received yet another prize for his film 'Mommy' - now with the Guichet D'Or.

Quebec filmmaker Xavier Dolan has received a $40,000 prize for his award-winning movie, “Mommy.”

Dolan was in Montreal Wednesday morning accepting the Golden Box Office award from Telefilm Canada.

Dolan has already received the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. He also swept the Canadian Screen Awards in Toronto on Sunday where his film ended up with nine awards, including best picture, best director, and best original screenplay.

But the 25-year-old director said receiving this latest prize in his hometown is particularly special.

“I obviously share this award with all of the town involved in ‘Mommy’, like the actors and the crew and everyone,” said Dolan. “It feels great to be acknowledged by Canada and the public.”

The film had the highest box office earnings in Canada last year, raking in over $3 million. “Mommy” was sold to more than 50 countries including France where it was seen by more than 1 million people.

Dolan already has five films under his belt, and is working on his sixth, “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan” which is now in pre-production.
