Protesters take on Energy East in Sorel

CTV Montreal: Protesters take on Energy East Protesters against the Energy East pipeline gathered in Sorel a day before the province launches environmental hearings on the project.

Protesters gathered outside an oil storage facility in Sorel on Sunday to voice their displeasure with the proposed Energy East pipeline.

The demonstration, which was comprised of several groups, came a day before Quebec is set to launch hearings into the environmental impact of the project.

Several female protesters formed a symbolic wall, the message being the government should turn its back on the project. Quebec Solidaire MNA Manon Masse said the government should be investing in renewable energy, rather than supporting the oil industry.

“All around the world, it’s always women who have to correct what happens after the impact of climate change,” she said. “I mean, they have to find good water, they have to feed their family and this is not easy.”
