Police seek suspect in string of Montreal bank robberies

Police have issued this photo of the suspect.

Montreal police are seeking a man they believe is responsible for a string of bank robberies on the island of Montreal in late 2015.

A total of seven robberies took place in Ahuntsic, Dorval, Pointe-Claire, Kirkland and Westmount, with the latest in on Monkland Ave. in N.D.G. on Dec. 29. The robbery spree spanned November and December.

Police believe it was the same man, in part because the thief used the same modus operandi in all the crimes. They say he would stand in line with customers, and when he reached the teller's window, he would hand the bank teller a note handwritten in English demanding they hand him $5,000. He also informed the bank teller he was armed.

After receiving the money, the suspect would flee on foot.

Police say the suspect is a white, English-speaking man in his early 30s, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds.

The suspect has long dark hair which may have been tied in a ponytail, as well as a long, graying, and possibly fake beard.

Police say he was wearing a baseball cap – in some cases a Montreal Canadiens cap – in several of the robberies.
