Before joining CTV News’ national digital team as a national affairs writer in November 2023, Toronto-based Christl Dabu worked in various roles as an editor, reporter and researcher for multi-platform publishers in Canada, the United States, Cairo, Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. A lifelong learner and versatile journalist, Christl has an interest in diverse topics, such as national and international affairs, religion, social issues, lifestyle, business, environment and entertainment. She has covered a wide range of stories, including hot-button subjects from Muslim and Christian relations in Egypt and China's underground Catholic church to protests over gender identity education and the Israel-Hamas war.
Christl's stories have been published in more than 20 publications. She has worked as a journalist for Postmedia, the Toronto Star, Our Kids Media, and hyperlocal news sites inthehammer.com and insauga.com. She has a bachelor of journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto. Christl is committed to providing fair, objective and incisive news coverage on diverse communities and issues.
Outside of journalism, she's a superfan of houseplants, nature, and wildlife such as giant pandas and sharks.
Before immigrating to Canada as a child, Christl spent her early years in the Philippines where she was born. She speaks English.
